Filipino food... finally...

Last Sunday turned out to be quite a happy day.

While browsing Instagram a few days ago, I found out that there was a Philippine festival in Hibiya Park over the weekend.

The first thing that came to mind was food!!!

So, I messaged Dean and asked if he and Ryan would like to check out the event. Thankfully, they also planned to go to the event. Yay!

We met up at Yurakucho around 3. From there, we walked to the nearby park. It was my first time to see such a large gathering of Filipinos in Tokyo. Hehe.

Naturally, there was a long queue at all the food stalls. We figured the taste would be the same everywhere soooo we just headed for the stall with the shortest queue.

After buying the stuff, we looked for an area that wasn't too crowded. There, we had a mini-feast.

Lechon kawali, liempo, caldereta, sisig, lumpiang shanghai, rice! Woohoo! For dessert, we got halo halo! It was super!

I hope there would be another event like that in the near future.

For now, I'm just happy with the feast we had!

Lazy Sunday...

Today was one of my most unproductive Sundays. Ever.

No volunteer work scheduled. No nature walk scheduled. No gatherings scheduled.

Yesterday, I invited some of the guys to a hike at the Tree Top. Lol! No one was interested. Perhaps some other time.

I woke up at 7AM and just stayed in bed, staring at the ceiling. An hour later, I called my Mom to say hi and to see how things are going in Manila. My second brother was still asleep. My youngest brother was with his wife and ILs.

There was really no news so Mom and I didn't spend a long time talking to each other. Besides, she was also going to church.

The only thing highlight of the day was movie and dinner with Jon. I was craving for Filipino food. The kopitiam near my place, which had a Filipino food stall, was undergoing renov. So, I've been deprived of oily, salty Filipino food for weeks now. Haha!

Thankfully, there is a Filipino food stall at the kopitiam in Jurong East. Jon and I had a dinner of Caldereta, Bicol Express and Bistek Tagalog before heading to the cinema to catch Risen.

Good movie, although the story was quite different from what's in the bible or from what I was taught as a Catholic boy.

It was still an enjoyable watch.

Last night, I caught Allegiant. with a date. There's no story to tell - both the movie and the date - so I'm skipping this.

Adobo et al for tonight's dinner....

Didn't eat much this morning and noontime since I Knew I was going to pig out during dinner. Haha!

Richie flew back to Singapore today. With him were dishes prepped by his Mom - pinakbet with bagnet, adobo, sinigang and monggo.

Weeks before his trip to Manila, he already told me to reserve tonight for dinner at his place.

I was, of course, extremely happy when I found out what dishes he was going to bring back! Haha!

Good start of the week. I'm one happy OFW.

Crispy pata craving on a Saturday night...

Last Saturday, one of my good friends here in SG said he was craving for crispy pata. I dun really know where to get crispy pata in SG except in Lucky Plaza and at Gerry’s Grill in Cuppage.

My friend then suggested we go to the Filipino food place across i12 in Katong. However, I told the pair that that place is no longer (I think).

Somehow, we ended up going to one of my fave zi char places in Singapore - Le Chasseur. Thankfully, the place offered crispy pork knuckles. That alone was enough for the group to decide to go there. PG Boy is not a fan of anything oily and he also avoids pork most of the time. The good thing about Le Chasseur is that they have a lot of other dishes to offer.

In addition to the crispy pork knuckles, we also ordered coffee pork ribs, prawn paste chicken and coffee pork ribs. We initially ordered kangkong with samba but meiyou already. Sad, sad.

Le Chasseur used to be located at New Bridge Road across Clarke Quay Central. Some time last year, it moved to Eunos industrial estate. For what reason, I dunno. The Eunos place is a lot bigger though with no AC. Hehe. Also, I’m not sure if the owners added any staff to be able to serve the number of customers. It took some time for the dishes to come out of the kitchen.

Thankfully, the food is still good and enjoyable. It was also not expensive. There were five of us and each one only had to shell out about $15. Not bad at all.

From Le Chasseur, we headed to a newly-opened drinking place along Guillemard Road near Sunny Spring. The name of the place is Tuckshop and it’s located at the corner of Guillemard and Lorong 36. It was extremely warm that night so we all enjoyed the ice cold beer. Also, we decided to stay there since we weren’t heading anywhere else after. It was okay to be a little sweaty. Haha! The place is actually nice. It has that feel of a pub in Club Street but in this case, it’s tucked in some corner along Guillemard.
